ποΈ Government to Clear Old Minor Offences
The Fijian Cabinet has approved a review of laws to help citizens clear old, minor criminal recordsβsuch as petty theft, small fights, curfew breaches, or traffic offences from over 10 years ago.
π‘ Why this matters:
Many people have moved on from these mistakes and are now living honest, hardworking lives. While Fijian law currently offers certificates to hide these records locally, other countries don’t accept themβmaking it hard to get overseas jobs or visas.
π― Whatβs changing:
The government plans to fully remove these minor, outdated offences from peopleβs records so they have a fair shot at opportunities both in Fiji and abroad.
π± Goal:
Help citizens rebuild their lives, find better jobs, support their families, and shape a safer, brighter future.
π Message from Hon. Bainivalu:
“Thank you all for your support as we work to make this change a reality.”
