The Coalition Government, led by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and the Peopleβs Alliance Party, has introduced new regulations to ensure iTaukei resource owners receive a fair share of royalties from natural resource extraction.
- Royalty Distribution:
- 80% of royalties go directly to customary fishing rights owners.
- 20% goes to the State.
- Royalty Rates (per cubic metre):
- Sand & gravel: $10.40
- Clay & soil: $6.50
- Rock: $5.21
- Top soil: $38.99
- River spalls: $7.80
- Sand from drainage/irrigation dump sites: $8.00
- Review Clause: Rates will be reviewed every five years to remain fair and marketβaligned.
This initiative strengthens iTaukei rights, supports the vanua, and ensures communities benefit directly from the responsible use of Fijiβs natural resources.
