FEO Clarifies Circulation of Mock Election Press Release

The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) has issued a clarification regarding a mock press release that was mistakenly circulated by media outlets and on social media. The release, which referred to the issuance of the Writ for the 2026 General Election, was part of a Dress Rehearsal exercise designed to test and finalize electoral processes.

As part of this rehearsal, FEO staff created a simulated press release containing fictitious information, including a false election date. The Office emphasized that no official Writ has been issued and that the content was solely for internal testing purposes. The incident occurred because the required procedure for uploading test materials was not followed, but corrective measures have since been implemented to ensure such errors do not recur.

The FEO explained that the purpose of the Dress Rehearsal is to identify gaps and strengthen safeguards before the actual election period. It expressed regret for any confusion caused and assured stakeholders and the public that the matter has been addressed internally. The Office reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining transparency, accuracy, and integrity in all electoral processes leading up to the 2026 General Election.
