Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has reinstated Charan Jeath Singh as Minister for Sugar, reversing an earlier Cabinet allocation that had placed the portfolio under Agriculture Minister Tomasi Tunabuna. Mr. Singh confirmed the decision, noting that he was informed via email from the Prime Minister and will formally assume the role next week.

This marks Mr. Singh’s return to a portfolio he previously held before a Cabinet reshuffle moved him to oversee Public Enterprises, Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage, and Arts. His reinstatement places him once again at the forefront of efforts to address the pressing challenges faced by sugarcane farmers and the wider sugar industry.

Mr. Singh expressed his commitment to assisting farmers more effectively and pledged to respect the Prime Minister’s decision. His return is seen as a strategic move to strengthen leadership within the sugar sector, ensuring that farmer concerns and industry reforms receive focused attention.
