Restoring Connectivity: Government and FRA Respond to Nailawa Bridge Collapse

The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has confirmed that restoration work at the Nailawa Bridge in Tailevu will commence as soon as water levels recede and it is safe for machinery to access the site.

Following heavy rain and rising water levels yesterday, the village bridge collapsed, prompting FRA to deploy a team to conduct immediate assessments. Initial inspections have been completed, and plans are in place to transport a digger from Suva to assist with reinstating the crossing.

The FRA emphasized its commitment to fully restoring access for the Nailawa community once weather conditions improve, ensuring the safety of engineers, contractors, and residents throughout the process.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development, Hon. Ro Filipe Tuisawau, confirmed that his ministry is working closely with FRA to address the damaged infrastructure and support the affected community.

This coordinated response reflects the Government’s dedication to strengthening rural infrastructure and ensuring communities remain connected, even in the face of severe weather events.
